I hope everyone is enjoying their day off!
This week in Mrs. Borg's class we will be working on reference materials, patterns in literature, and causes of the Revolutionary War. We should be ready for a test on the causes of the Revolutionary War by Friday, January 22. Please make sure your child has a coat on when we have chilly weather. We go outside everyday that we can! We will not go out if it is below 40 degrees at recess time. If you child does not have a coat, they will not be able to participate in recess. If you haven't already, I would like for you to take a look at your student's ELA homework that comes home on Mondays (Tuesday this week). This homework is a REVIEW of things that we have covered all year. I have told the students that they can use their interactive notebooks to help them remember the concepts. Many have struggled with adjectives and prepositions. I correct them and send them home and this would be a great review for the Milestones. Thanks for your support! Mrs. Borg April 30th Comcast Cares is back this year! Great opportunity to help Big Shanty! Look for more information to help volunteer! Tickets are on sale now for the Mardi Gras dance on Friday, February 5th from 6-8 PM......forms were sent home last Thursday. Please check the Science tab for the Solar System Project requirements. A copy will be sent home next Tuesday, and we will discuss it thoroughly in class (I will also show examples from previous years). This week we will continue to use our selected books to work on point of view, FANBOYS, characters, setting, plot prediction, and reading strategies. The students have been enjoying reading their books in class and I will continue to conference with them individually and in small group.
In Social Studies we are still working on the causes of the Revolutionary War and famous people during that time. Chris is going to represent Benjamin Franklin! We will start talking about the French and Indian War next. In writing we will finish up our goal writing and move on to our Opinion writing for this 9 weeks. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us! Thanks! Just a reminder that our in-house field trip is this Monday, 1/11 from 9:45 to 10:45. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I think the students will really enjoy it!
Please check for updates in the math and science sections. I thought I would start the New Year off right with a blog post to get us ready for next week!
We will start off with a writing assignment focused on Goals and Resolutions. I will also be introducing Cranium Club and there is a link with more information on the left side of this page. We will also be talking about FANBOYS and Point of View this week. We also are continuing to work on our Poem of the day and pretty soon I hope to have our Poetry Slam! For reading the second half of the year, we will be working within books that the student has chosen to complete activities and strategies for better reading. These books will stay in my room, unless the student needs to make up some work. I am most excited about starting to learn about the causes of the Revolutionary War, including the French and Indian War, Taxes, Boston Tea Party, and many more! I have included a video read aloud and link to an interactive map under the Social Studies tab. That is all for this week (which is only 4 days)! I really look forward to seeing your students grow over the second half of Fourth grade! Thanks, Mrs. Borg Hold your hats! We are coming in fast to the last week of school before break!
We will be continuing to study the 13 Colonies for Social Studies. On the 18th we will be having Colonial Day! They students will experience writing with a quill, silversmithing, making butter, playing games of Colonial times. They will be making their own bonnet (girl) or hat (boy) in class, but they are invited to dress up as Colonial children. Colonists came in all different forms, rich, poor, Pilgrims, Puritanism, etc. There are plenty of images on the internet and I have shared some with the students. Our Holiday party will be on the 17th, which will also be the day of our test for the Colonies. Thank you to everyone that has signed up to send something in, if you missed it...look for the a sign up genius that was sent out. (I think Mrs. Berenger is sending her sign up out today.) Have a great weekend! Mrs. Borg I know we only have 3 weeks until another break, but we have a lot to do in those 3 weeks!
