I feel like we are finally finding our groove! With all the beginning of the school year test, business, rules, procedures, blah, blah, blah, I am looking forward to getting to the good stuff!
Do you know when to use Who and when to use Whom? I still stumble every now and then also! No worries. Check out the power point under Reading about relative adverbs. We will have an open note quiz on those next week.
We also talked about main idea and most students made a "taco". If they didn't, they will next week. It isn't exactly the world's most delicious taco, but it is very informative! This week we will talk about summarizing, fiction and nonfiction. We will also be starting our grammar daily practice, or grammar bites as they are called. We will do that every day in the afternoon and have a quiz once a week.
In Social Studies we had our map skills vocabulary test, most did really well. If they did not do so well, I gave them a chance to look at their notes and make corrections to get some points and bump up their grade. We started Physical Features last week and this week on Wednesday we will have the quiz over that. They need to know where they are and the characteristics of each place. Only the physical features (not cities, or Eerie Canal) will be on the quiz. This week we will touch a little on Economics, personal budget and spending. Most of our Economics standards are covered while we teach Native Americans, Colonies, etc.
Upcoming things:
Club applications are due by 8/25/15
Used Book Fair on 8/26/15
Family Day on 8/29/15
BBQ Street PTA Dinner Night 9/2/15 (you bet I'll be at that one!)
Whew! That was a long one! I hope you had a great weekend and if your student comes tomorrow (8/24/15) and tells me the secret phrase (I love to read!) they will get a special pencil! Only available on 8/24/15!!
Thanks,
Mrs. Borg
